Frequently asked questions
How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture stimulates nerves in the skin and muscles, triggering the release of natural painkillers (endorphins and serotonin) to alter how the brain and spinal cord process pain. Beyond pain management, modern research shows it enhances overall
well-being, lowers stress, and positively influences nearly all major bodily functions, including the nervous, hormonal, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.

What are moxibustion and cupping?

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves burning the herb mugwort on or near specific acupoints on the body to gently stimulate circulation, promote healing, warm the body and boost energy.

Cupping is another Chinese medicine technique where specialised cups are placed on the skin to create suction. This pressure pulls the skin and underlying tissue upward, increasing blood flow. It is used to relieve muscle pain, reduce inflammation, and promote relaxation.

What is natropathic nutrition?

Naturopathic nutrition is a holistic, complementary healthcare practice that combines modern nutritional science and functional medicine with traditional naturopathic medicine to identify and treat the root causes of health issues rather than just managing symptoms. It operates on the principle that the human body has an inherent ability to heal itself when provided with the correct raw materials, biochemical environment, and lifestyle conditions.
Treatment is
focused on diet to optimise digestion, nutrient absorption, and natural detoxification. This is often supported by supplements and function testing where useful.

Do you recommend supplements?

Dietary changes are always recommended as the first step, but supplements may also be recommended to acieve faster results and support more complex cases.

Do you recommend functional testing?

Yes, functional testing uses advanced, specialised diagnistics to indentify the root causes of chronic health issues, identifying key mineral and vitamin deficiencies. These tests often use stool, saliva, urine or blood tests to identify gut health, hormone imbalances, nutrient deficiencies and toxicity, typically covering a broader, more personalised range of biomarkers that GP tests.
